Lecturer in Literature
The Department of English and Related Literature seeks to appoint a Lecturer in Literature. In particular, we seek expertise in one or more of the following fields: literary theory, global and postcolonial literature (any period), Classics and translation, disability studies, queer studies and/or women’s studies, with an ability to teach across literary periods and traditions. The successful candidate will teach first-year undergraduate modules appropriate to their expertise and experience. They will undertake MA supervision as required, and will contribute to orientation and support activities for first-year students. The successful candidate will contribute to the Department’s outstanding record for world-leading research.
Applicants will hold a PhD in a relevant area, or have equivalent relevant experience, and will have experience in supporting students and enabling them to thrive. Scholars who identify as Black, Asian, Minority Ethnic or Global Majority are strongly encouraged to apply as they are currently under-represented within the Department.
The successful candidate will join one of the world’s leading English departments, which boasts an outstanding research record, a distinctive international outlook, and a deep-rooted commitment to excellence in learning and teaching. They will be a champion for Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, and will contribute to our ongoing project to diversify and decolonise the curriculum and Department, and to develop an anti-racist, inclusive ethos.
