Description:
The Department of Eastern, Slavic, and German Studies at Boston College invites applications for a full-time tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor rank in Linguistics to teach and conduct research in a program offering undergraduate degrees in Linguistics and serving students from several other departments.
The appointment requires a completed PhD in Linguistics and an active research profile. We expect successful candidates to be on track to produce scholarly work at the highest level, and to lead a broad range of courses at both the introductory and more advanced levels. Readiness to teach Phonology and Phonetics is essential. Highly desirable additional subfields would be Historical Linguistics, Semantics, Morphology, and / or Syntax. The ideal candidate would be familiar with a range of theoretical perspectives; have experience with the linguistics of at least one non-Indo-European language not covered in our department (e.g. the languages of Africa or of Native America; Aboriginal Australian languages; Austronesian); and be able to successfully communicate the findings of Linguistics to non-majors.
