Hello,my name is Eric Morgan,and today we're going to be talking about collecting EDA.EDA stands for electrodermal activity and as a measure of the activation of endocrine sweat glands.You may also have seen EDA referred to as GSC which stands for galvanic skin conductance but they're used interchangeably.First let's take inventory of the necessary supplies for collecting EDA.To collect EDA we need two GSC medical sensors or electrodes with two lead wires attached,and micropore tape.Note that unlike many other measures we will not be using alcohol prep pads to clean the electrode sit.alcohol dries the skin and with EDA we are measuring moisture levels.Cleaning with alcohol prep pads will diminish or remove EDA response.Also note that GSC electrodes are different from those used for ECG or impedance card iographer.They are rectangular in shape and contain a different concentration of conductive gel.We're going to use two GSC electrodes and place them on the subjects palms specifically on the thin are and hypothenar eminence.To record fluctuations and skin conductance.Priorv to attaching sensors I may ask my subject to clean their hands so that they're dirt free,When doing this I want to make sure the soap they use is alcohol free,fragrance free and dye free.For the same reason as before alcohol will dry the hands and diminish the EDA response.I'm going to ask my subject to hold out their hand.If the subject is required to perform a task with their hands you should record EDA on the non-dominant hand,or the hand which will be used the least.I'm going to take an electrode from the strip with a green lead wire on it and place it on the meaty part of the palm with the lead wire running back towards the subjects elbow.I'm going to take another electrode again with the green wire and place it on the palm.Next I'll take a piece of micropore tape and make a service loop by attaching the lead wires to the subjects wrist.This way when there's tension on the lead wires it's applied to the tape and not to the electrodes themselves.Once the electrodes have been placed the leads can be plugged into the data acquisition device such as the MindWare.You can see the lead colors to correspond with the channel.Unlike some other measures polarity does not matter with EDA so either lead can be plugged into positive or negative.Thanks for watching and be sure to check out our other videos on our YouTube page.
