Applications for the Guanghua-Kellogg Executive MBA Program 2021 intake are now open. In response to recent questions from applicants, the admissions team has updated the official FAQs with the latest information, which will assist applicants in understanding the GK EMBA program and the application process.
What degree will I get?
The Guanghua-Kellogg EMBA is the first Sino-US joint EMBA Program in the mainland of China. In accordance with Ministry of Education regulations in China, graduates will receive an EMBA diploma and degree issued by Peking University, in addition to a Master of Business Administration Degree jointly issued by the Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University and the Guanghua School of Management, Peking University.
How long is the program? Where are the classes taught?
The program lasts 22 months, beginning every September. Normally classes take place once every two months, which is designed to accommodate executives’ busy schedules. The participants will have the opportunity to study at Guanghua branch campuses across China (Shanghai, Shenzhen, Xi’an, and Chengdu) and any of Kellogg's partner institutions within our global network (Chicago, Miami, Hong Kong, Toronto, Tel Aviv, and Vallendar). This concept of our "moving classroom" is the best way to strengthen your understanding of local business practices, and to expand your professional network and career potential.
What is the language of instruction? And who teaches the program?
The language of instruction is English. You are not required to speak or write in Mandarin. About half of the faculty are from the Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University; while the other half are from the Guanghua School of Management, Peking University.
How will the program help with my career?
The Guanghua-Kellogg EMBA is a global program with a focus on exploring global business principles, providing executives with training in the latest techniques and networking. The diverse and international faculty and students will inspire and challenge you, and what you learn in the program will help you in dealing with real-world problems.
What kind of students do you look for? Any specific requirements?
A candidate for this program must have:
1. A Bachelor’s degree or above from a recognized university or an approved institution;
2. A Minimum of 8 years of significant full-time work experience and 5 years of work experience in a managerial position with increasing responsibilities;
3. English proficiency;
4. Motivation and commitment to attend a rigorous academic program.
What if I don’t have any financial or business background?
Applicants from both business and professional fields can apply for the program as long as they meet the above four requirements. We welcome applicants from all backgrounds who have the confidence and ambition to be leaders in their organizations. In the past, we have encouraged applicants of all backgrounds to join the program. Going into the future, the diversity of the students will make the program more valuable.
Can junior college graduates apply for the program?
If you are a junior college graduate that have graduated for more than 10 years with excellent experience in management, we encourage you to apply. The admissions committee will give special consideration to your application.
What is the application process for 2021 intake?Do I need to take the National Entrance Test for Postgraduates?
The application process involves taking an interview first. After passing the interview, students from the mainland of China are required to register for a written examination in October 2020: The National Entrance Test for Postgraduates. Students from Hong Kong/Macau/Taiwan and International students are exempt from this written examination.
How can I qualify for an interview? What materials are required?
The first step is to submit an online application. After passing a preliminary check, you will be asked to submit supporting documents and be invited for an interview. Please click here for more details.
Is a letter of recommendation required? Are there any requirements for references?
A letter of recommendation is necessary. The program provides a reference letter template that can be completed and signed by your reference. If your reference is Chinese, your reference letter can be written in Chinese.
A GMAT score is not required. The program considers candidates based on their application materials and interview performance. However, if you have a GMAT score exceeding 700, you can submit it to the program to supplement your admission materials and it will strengthen your application.
If I already attended an interview but my application was rejected, can I reapply in the same year?
Candidates can only apply to the program once per year.
Once the interview has been completed, what factors does the program use to assess the strength of an applicant?
Along with your application materials and your interview performance, the program assesses candidates on a variety of factors not limited to: educational background, work experience, international experience, English proficiency, recommendation letters, awards and honors, leadership ability, personal statement, the completeness of the application, and so on. The admissions team comprehensively evaluates the background of each candidate and will make offers to the best candidates.
