Responsible for assisting with the performance of research projects in a clinical setting, including recruitment of potential study subjects and collection and organization of data. Assist with data collection by conducting research interviews, doing cognitive assessments, EEG and MRI session. Assists with recruiting and screening subjects for research studies according to IRB approved protocols. Assist in verifying participant eligibility; obtains consent and enrollment. Assist with data analysis and interpretation, and the development of statistical reports of study data using descriptive statistics using SAS, STATA, and SPSSS software. Assists in developing, submitting, and providing content for grants, papers, abstracts, manuscripts, and presentations. Conducts and analyzes literature searches. Assist the Principle Investigator and other research personnel in the development of research protocols and materials. Assist with performing administrative duties. Maintains communication with participants and colleagues regarding protocol specific information. May also assist with ensuring protocol compliance while participants are in a study. Performs other duties as assigned.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Cognitive Science, Neuroscience, Behavioral Science, or related field of study to position required. Preferred Education: Master’s degree in Clinical or Experimental Psychology. Preferred Experience: Prior exposure to people with severe mental illness a plus. Consideration may be given for a unique combination of education and experience. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Strong organizational and project management skills. Ability to understand and utilize basic scientific and medical terminology and research theory in both verbal and written communications. Maintains productivity and high standards with the work being performed. Assumes personal responsibility for all outcomes. Makes effective and timely decisions. Effectively uses technology and acquires new skills with ease. Ability to communicate effectively in writing. Writes and presents information in a clear and concise way. The research labs of Dr. John Trueswell and Dr. Lila Gleitman are hiring a full-time research assistant (i.e., lab manager/coordinator) to help conduct language learning studies with children and adults. Some of these studies will involve web-based eye-gaze studies of participants as they respond to spoken instructions. The successful candidate will have frequent interactions with postdocs, graduate students, research assistants, and will have plenty of opportunities for scientific involvement in all aspects of research projects including journal articles and conference presentations. Thus this position is an excellent stepping stone for someone planning to go to graduate school in psycholinguistics — individuals previously employed in this position are now star graduate students, postdocs and even professors within psychology and linguistics. Note that for the time being the position will be conducted remotely due to COVID-19 restrictions, with all data collection being conducted over the internet. Eventually the position will also include in-person data collection. A background check for working with minors will be required for this position.

In order to increase the recruitment, retention, and training of diverse doctoral students in psychology, the Psychology Department at Stony Brook University developed a committee of students and faculty dedicated to increasing the diversity of our graduate student population. The Psychology Department accepts applications for its 4 Ph.D. programs (Clinical Psychology, Cognitive Science, Social & Health Psychology, and Integrative Neuroscience) and for the Master's (M.A.) Program.
