CASLAR (Chinese as a Second Language Research) is a biennial conference with the goal to bring together scholars from all over the world whose research focuses on the acquisition, development and use of Chinese as a second language to survey available knowledge in the field, exchange ideas and initiate research projects. The conference is a part of the CASLAR movement that aims to transform a field from a primarily experienced-and practice-based discipline into a discipline based on and supported by research and theory.

CASLAR-6 invites proposals for presentations related to research in any area of Chinese as a Second Language.

Publication出版:
Two selected-papers volumes will be published. One will select papers focusing on linguistics (Routledge) and discourse issues of CSL/CFL. The second one will contain papers focusing on language learning and teaching issues (DeGruyter). Papers can also be submitted for consideration to the CASLAR journal.

Abstract Submissions摘要提交:
Abstract submission Deadline: February 15, 2020
Please submit abstracts to EASYABS at http://linguistlist.org/easyabs/caslar-6
- Abstracts should be in English or Chinese and be submitted as a WORD doc.
- Each proposal should include: the title, the abstract, three to five keywords and a summary. The first keyword should indicate the topic area of study (please refer to “Suggested Topic Areas”).
- Individual Presentations: Proposals for a 20-minute oral presentation (15 minutes plus 5 minute Q & A) or poster presentation. Abstract should not exceed 350 English words (or about 600 Chinese characters). It should summarize the purpose of the study, methods, results. The summary should not exceed 60 English words (or 90 Chinese characters). Poster presentations focus on an on-going project and combine text and graphics.
- Panels: An hour-long panel comprised of three, or four, presentations on a common theme. Each must have a representative submitting a proposal, which should include: theme of the panel; individual topics and abstracts; five key words and a summary. Proposal should not exceed 500 English words (750 Chinese characters). Summary should not exceed 100 English words (150 Chinese characters).

1) CASRI Roundtables: CASRI research groups will offer round table discussions about the topics they focus on: 1) prosody and tone, 2) formulaic language, idioms, SBUs, 3) acquisition and use of modality, 4) innovative pedagogical approaches, 5) vocabulary, speech acts and discourse, 6) neural mechanism of cognitive/psychological process in Chinese as related to language acquisition.
2) Two workshops with the objective of bridging the research and practice of Chinese language acquisition.
